When it comes to buying a new laptop, one of the major confusions is to choose a processor as per our needs. You might have an idea about a good printer, headphones, Speakers, mechanical keyboard but the processor might confuse you.
Well, this is one of the most confusing questions to ask about Which is better for a Laptop Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5. Because there is no certain answer to this question.
Since the processor is the main processing unit and it’s not meant to be changed again and again. Hence it becomes a hard factor of discussion.
AMD Ryzen 5 is more commonly mistaken as a necessity for gaming. But this is not true. Why so?
The answer is simple AMD processors are quite efficient for other heave computing tasks like Vfx, Video editing, Motion graphics, 3D designing, Animation, Physical analysis and many more.
So here we are still confused with our question. Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5! No need to worry because I have created a step-by-step guide to answering every question in your mind.
Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5
In below list we are going to see some of the most popular and powerful AMD ryzen 5 series chipset that most of the laptop manufacturer used in their laptops.
AMD Ryzen 5 – 4000 and 5000 series CPUs
Base Clock Speed GHz
Boost Clock Speed GHz
Like AMD CPUs now we are going to see some of the most famous Intel 10th and 11th generations i5 CPU that is widely used in budget laptops.

PERFORMANCE WITH AND WITHOUT CHARGER
For processors, there is quite a good chance that a processor might perform differently in a Full-Scale Computer and differently on a Laptop.
Even with the same specs, there are huge variations. we must understand the nature of the working of a processor. Now if I try to explain this in deep thing will go a little messy. To avoid that lemme just tell you that.
To reduce the space that a processor that of a computer occupy, in laptops space is reduced by making our processor a bit of flat. Because of the lesser volume, it needs more power supply to give its best.
Hence at the normal battery, you will observe FPS drop while gaming, video editing 3D designing, Animation, Physical analysis etc.
So we can say that it hardly does matter that what our processor is when you are going to use some heavy software you need to plug into your charger. With this let’s move to our major topics of concern…
To put things Simple let’s say that you are planning to buy a budget high-performance gaming laptop. Your budget is around 50000 INR.
In this price range, you can find a good, not the best but good high-performance gaming pc with an 8Gb ram and graphics card of Nvidia.
Now since we know that processors are the most expensive parts that you could find out in a Pc. But since our priority is laptops. And with laptops, we cannot add any processor externally.
We have to know about the best things available in our price range. For a price range of 50000 INR, you will probably be able to get an AMD Ryzen 5.
This is good if you are not into any competitive gaming or some high-end Video editing. At the same time if you want to go for intel i5 it will come to Approx At the same price range of 50k INR.
So from the price point of view, we can say that there is not a very big difference between both CPUs.
When we are talking about processors how can we forget about electricity consumption and efficiency? Ever since AMD Ryzen 5 and Intel Core i5 have come out into the market.
Not only for these to specifically but. AMD’s are always more power-consuming than Intel.
So, if you are planning to run a full battery boost to your pc and then use it for some piece of work then sorry but that’s not the case in AMDs they do consume power almost double that of Intel.
But since these laptops are going to be used up for high-end processing, after all, that’s why they are made for. The battery will not be an issue for you.
The only thing that was a problem for me when I used an AMD based processor was that it was getting overheated. Whereas Intel was under control. I played GTA V on a gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 in it.
No doubts the graphics and FPS was far too good as compared to Intel. But When I noted down the temperature it was 92 degree Celsius.
But Intel Core i5 was at a 62-degree constant. My AMD Ryzen 5 was under cloaking but intel was running under normal circumstances.
Another thing to be considered is that Intel Core i5 is a bit better at multitasking than AMD Ryzen 5.
If you have thoughts of using photoshop along with YouTube and music AMD Processor will show you some lag even with the charger plugged in.
But this is not the case with Intel core i5, because of the non-clocking protocol of intel. i5 can perform smoothly even with a few heavy software open. So, we can say that Intel surely takes an advantage of its not clocking here.
So, Which is better for a laptop?
Now as we have discussed the factors of multitasking, thermal efficiency, Power consumption and pricing. The one I value the most is the pricing factor. If you have a budget of let’s, say around 30000 INR.
Then no matter which one of the processors you are going to buy it will hardly make any difference here. Because these laptops are not made for the sake of performance.
They are good if you want to do some generalised jobs like downloading and uploading of files, social media consumptions, Bing watch, excel sheets management, ppt presentations, etc.
These laptops are designed for these purposes so Ryzen or Intel doesn’t matter for performance. But If you consider the fact that Ryzen is cheaper it can be a better option for a budget laptop.
If your budget is around 50000 then there is a different story. You might be spending this much just because you are seeking high-end performance.
You might have plans for gaming or for video editing photoshop whatever it is. Ryzen 5 will be a good option because it is specifically designed for focused performance.
This is also a reason why AMD is not able to perform multitasking better. Intel can also do things very nicely. But AMD is another name of performance for these Laptops.
