Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5 | Which is better for a Laptop?

When it comes to buying a new laptop, one of the main confusions is to choose a processor as per our needs.

You might have an idea about a good RAM, display, Speakers, or keyboard but the processor might confuse you.

Well, this is one of the most confusing questions to ask about Which is better for a Laptop Ryzen 5 vs an Intel Core i5. Because there is no certain answer to this question.

Since the processor is the main processing unit and it’s not meant to be changed again and again. Hence it becomes a hard factor in the discussion.

Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5

Intel core i5 is more commonly mistaken as a necessity for gaming. But this is not true. Why so?

The answer is simple AMD processors are quite efficient for other heavy computing tasks like Vfx, Video editing, Motion graphics, 3D designing, Animation, Physical analysis and many more.

So here we are still confused with our question. Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5! No need to worry because I have created a step-by-step guide to answering every question in your mind.

Performance with and without charger

For processors, there is quite a good chance that a processor might perform differently in a Full-Scale Computer and differently on a Laptop.

Even with the same specs, there are huge variations. we must understand the nature of the working of a processor.

Now if I try to explain this in deep things will go a little messy. To avoid that lemme just tell you that.

Now if I try to explain this in-depth, things will get a bit messy. to avoid that I am just giving you a piece of brief information.

To reduce the space that a computer processor occupies, space is reduced by flattening our processors in laptops.

Due to low volume, it needs more power supply to give its best.

PERFORMANCE WITH AND WITHOUT CHARGER

In our research we find in normal system battery power the laptop drops the FPS while gaming, video editing, 3D designing, Animation etc.

This is why if you planning to do heavy video editing or high FPS gaming type of work then I recommend you to plug your laptop into your charger.

If you are thinking of buying a productivity laptop with good battery backup then I recommend you to read our Best video editing laptop under 70000 article.

With this let’s move to our major topics of concern.

Pricing

To put things Simple let’s say that you are planning to buy a budget high-performance gaming laptop. Your budget is around 50000 INR.

In this price range, you can find a good high-performance gaming pc with an 8GB ram and Nvidia graphics card.

Now since we know that processors are the most expensive parts that you could find out in a Pc.

But since our priority is laptops. And with laptops, we cannot add any processors externally.

We have to know about the best things available in our price range. For a price range of 50000 INR, you will probably be able to get an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.

At the same time if you want to go for intel i5 it will come to Approx At the same price range of 50k INR.

So from the price point of view, we can say that there is not a very big difference between both CPUs.

Power consumption

When we are talking about processors how can we forget about electricity consumption and efficiency?

Both Ryzen 5 and Intel core i5 need almost similar power to do their work smoothly.

But because AMD is a heavy-performance CPU that’s why it consumes slightly more power compared to the Intel core i5.

Our team tested both CPU laptops and in our research, we find the Intel core i5 CPU is nearly 8% more power efficient compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.

POWER CONSUMPTION

Thermal efficiency

The only thing that was a problem for me when I used an AMD-based processor was that it was getting overheated.

Whereas Intel was under control. I played GTA V on a gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 in it.

No doubt the graphics and FPS were far too good as compared to Intel. But When I noted down the temperature it was 82 degrees Celsius.

But Intel Core i5 was at a 71-degree constant. My AMD Ryzen 5 was under cloaking but intel was running under normal circumstances.

One thing to keep in mind is that AMD’s gaming laptops heat up just a little bit but AMD’s lightweight office uses and travelling laptops don’t have any heating issues.

Multitasking

Another thing to be considered is that AMD Ryzen 5 is a bit better at multitasking than Intel Core i5

If you have thoughts of using photoshop along with YouTube and music intel Processor will show you some lag even with the charger plugged in.

But this is not the case with AMD Ryzen 5, because of the Boost clocking feature of AMD.

Ryzen 5 can perform smoothly even with a few heavy software open. So, we can say that AMD surely takes an advantage of its Boost clocking feature here.

So, Which is better for a laptop?

Now as we have discussed the factors of multitasking, thermal efficiency, Power consumption and pricing.

The one I value the most is the pricing factor. If you have a budget of let’s, say around 30000 INR.

Then no matter which one of the processors you are going to buy it will hardly make any difference here. Because these laptops are not made for the sake of performance.

So, Which is better for a laptop?

Both CPUs are good if you want to do some generalised jobs like downloading and uploading files, social media consumption, Bing watch, excel sheets management, ppt presentations, etc.

But If you are Looking for a budget laptop with good performance then you can go with an Intel core i5 CPU device.

If your budget is around 60000 then there is a different story. You might be spending this much just because you are seeking high-end performance.

You might have plans for gaming or video editing, photoshop whatever it is the Ryzen 5 will be a good option because it is specifically designed for focused performance.
